Early Times Report JAMMU, July 4: The Department of Mass Communication and New Media of Central University of Jammu (CUJ) organized an extension lecture at Main Campus Bagla Samba. Baldev Bhai Sharma, Professor & Head of Department of Mass Communication and Creative Writing, Central University of Himachal Pradesh and Chairman of National Book Trust (NBT) was the resource person. He shared valuable experience while working as editors of several national newspapers including Nai Duniya, Amar Ujala, Dainik Bhaskar, Panchjanya and others. Addressing the students, Sharma expressed concern over interest of young generation towards ever-growing entertainment industry. "Comparing the entertainment with "Chuttni" and Chinese dishes, he said that it must be occasionally used but the journalism must be visionary to serve the common helpless masses, society and for greater good of nation", he said. Emphasizing on the role of journalism, he said that it was only called the fourth pillar of democracy as when all the three other pillars, legislature, executive and judiciary started crumbling, it becomes the responsibility of journalism to change the course of society towards progress and development. He stressed on budding journalists to explore the actual meaning of life as well as journalism to connect with masses and become a voice of the helpless and truth, rather than running before status, money etc. Earlier, the formal introduction of the guest lecturer was given by Assistant Professor, Archana Kumari, and later the HoD, MCNM, CUJ Dr Govind Singh highlighted achievements of Dr Baldev Bhai Sharma as a journalist, academician and chairman of NBT. |
