No public toilets yet, district Poonch declared Open Defecation Free | | | Early Times Report POONCH, July 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream project to have public and community toilets in every corner of the country is still a far cry as any initiative regarding this is yet to reach the town of Poonch. At many places people are left with no option and they have to go for open defection as no public toilet facility is available during their visit to places like Mughal Road. Mughal Road has emerged as one of the most sought after tourist destinations of the state and Peer Ki Gali area on this road is attracting large number of vistors. Thousands of people of the state visit this place daily; however, there is no public toilet facility available at this spot. Availability of public toilets is must for the success of the Swachh Bharat Mission and it is common to see tourists stopping along the road side so that they can dash in open to answer the call of nature. These scenes are ugly. It is sheer torture for women to travel in a public or private vehicle on Mughal Road route or Poonch to BG as they are not able to go to the toilet," said a female tourist from Jammu. Men never have a problem because they relieve themselves anywhere. Women have to deal with unhygienic or dangerous options of going in open as there is no public toilet facility at this spot, she added. One of the tourists said we are aware that act of easing oneself in the open is undignified, but here we are forced to defecate or urinate in public due to absence of public conveniences. |
