Delegation of JKYC calls on Virender Gupta, Onkar Seth | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 5: A delegation of Yogi Community led by Gyan Chand Yogi President of Jammu & Kashmir Yogi Community met Prof. Virender Gupta and Adv. Onkar Seth, the members of State Commission for Backward Classes and submitted their memorandum. While pleading the case of Yogi Community, its President said that the community is one of the most backward communities. The members of Yogi Community are economically, socially and academically backwards. He said that they are engaged in drum beating at Dev Sathans singing the religious songs in their devotion as per their traditions. He added that they earn their livelihood a part from performing their traditional work, by doing farming and other menial works. A very few members among the community are educated and are having government jobs. He pleaded that looking at economic and social conditions of the members of the community. The community needs to be included among the Backward Classes. The president showed his concern on the fact that inspite of their repeated representations the respective government paid no heed to their demand. He also narrated that in the rest of the states of the country Yogi Community is counted among the backward classes. |
