Rajouri petrol pumps lack mandated facilities

Rajouri, July 5: Most of the petrol pumps / retail outlets in Rajouri district don't have the mandatory facilities for the welfare of the customers and for ready references and checking by the inspection teams including from the department of Legal Metrology.
Sources said the customers are satisfied with the quality and quantity of the patrol/ diesel at twenty one outlets in the districts but most of the outlets don't have requisite/mandated facilities.
The mandated facilities lacking at these patrol pumps (both for customers as well as required by inspection teams) include missing of filter papers for quality check of the petrol, 500 ml jar. Calibrated hydrometer, thermometer, American Society for testing of materials (ASTM, conversion charts required to carry out density test and calibrated 5 litre measuring jar duly stamped by the Legal Metrology Department (LMD).
Recently a team from the LMD department has conducted inspections of 21 outlets in the 9 tehsils in Rajouri district which includes 9 in Rajouri tehsil, 4- in Nowshera , 3-in Sunderbani and one each in Kotranka and Beripatan tehsils.
"The team also realised a fine to the tune of Rs 70000/- from the owners of these patrol pumps for lacking of mandated facilities" said LMD official.
The teams inspected the patrol pumps on the directions from the district administration for quality check and mandatory facilities including free air service, display of working hours, display of telephone numbers of concerned oil company personnel for the convenience of the customers, first aid boxes, toilet complex & safety equipment as per statutory requirements such as fire extinguishers, sand buckets etc.
LMD officials have also served notices to these petrol outlets for ensuring provision of mandated facilities for customers and requisite material/equipment to be produced on demand for quality and quantity check.
