Jammu, July 5: Parkash Diwas (Birth Anniversary) of Sixth Guru of Sikh Community, Guru Hargobind Sahib was celebrated by District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu today at Gurdwara Chhati Patshahi, Talab Tillo, Jammu with the cooperation of Sikh Sangat and all the Sikh organisationsin which large number of Sikh sangat and other devotees participated with religious fervour and enthusiasm. Prominent Sikh preachers Bhai Sarabjit Singh Dhotian and Bhai Parampal Singh Sabra threw light on the life history and teachings of Guru Hargobind Sahib, the only son of Guru Arjan Sahib, who became Guru at the young age of eleven.
The brutal torture and execution of the peaceful and sanity Guru Arjan Dev necessitated that the Sikh adopt a military tradition in order to face the brutal Mughals and resist all sorts of persecution. Sikh preachers while elaborating on the concept of Miri-Piri, said that Guru Hargobind Sahib adopted two swords, one representing Temporal (Miri) Power and other Spiritual Power (Piri) and emphasized a great deal on physical and military training of the Sikhs. Guru Hargobind Sahib also built Sri Akal Takht Sahib, as highs religious and temporal authority of Sikhs. Through his Miri-Piri concept and strong determination, Guru Hargobind Sahib instilled in his followers a will to fight against evil in order to defend their rights.
