SHO earns lakhs in failed land deal | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 1: A Station House Officer (SHO) posted in district Jammu has managed to earn Rs 1.5 lakh for arriving at a 'viable solution' in a complaint lodged at his police station. Sources told Early Times that after making the quick bucks, the SHO brokered peace between the two groups, who were at loggerheads over an issue. "In this way the smart SHO not only made easy money but also disposed of the matter without any fuss. Moreover, the SHO also survived the 'watchful eyes' of his superiors in handling the issue." According to sources, a complaint with regard to a failed land deal reached the police station from one of the police posts. The complainant had alleged that he had entered into deal with a person to purchase a piece of land from him and for the purpose he even gave him the money but later the seller refused to get the land registered in his favour and also refused to return the money. "The complainant used all his resources and efforts to get back his money, but to no avail. After nothing worked, he finally decided to lodge a complaint at the police post. But sensing some monetary benefit the SHO took control of the matter and summoned the one who took the money in lieu of selling the land," said sources. "The seller was told that he acted deceitfully in the land deal. The person was pressurized that a case against him could be registered as the aggrieved party has written proof of the payment he had made. The pressure tactics of the SHO worked as the seller readily struck a deal with the police officer who was promised to give Rs 1.5 lakh. Later Rs 1.5 lakh was paid to the SHO through one of his trusted staff members," added sources. They said that even the police post in-charge had no idea about the deal between the selling party and the SHO though a trader of the area played a major role in it as it was he who directed it further. "The SHO then summoned both the parties to the police station. Both the buyer and seller were counselled. Taking side of the seller, the SHO told the buyer that the seller has spent all the money he had received while at the same time he was no more interested to sale out his land," said sources. Sources further said that in order to end the deadlock, the SHO pronounced that the seller would return the money to the buyer in the shape of monthly instalments, adding that both the parties then asked to leave. |
