Ill equipped district hospitals to hamper academics in new medical colleges | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 1: The Department of Health and Medical Education has proposed three District Hospitals (DHs) for running academic session of new medical colleges from next year but despite tall claims of the department concerned, these district hospitals lack acute infrastructure and manpower. It is pertinent to mention here that the union ministry of Health and Family Welfare had announced three medical colleges for Jammu division including one each for Doda, Rajouri and Kathua in 2014 when Ghulam Nabi Azad was Union Health Minister but owing to inordinate delay on part of former state government of PDP- BJP, the department has so far succeeded to allotment work to executive agencies and laid only foundation stone of buildings. "Now the department is mulling to start the academic session of new medical colleges from next year from the concerned district hospitals but due to apathy of health department these district hospitals are already facing acute shortage of manpower and infrastructure", said sources while wishing anonymity. Sources further said that recently, the Principal of Government Medical College, Jammu held a meeting wherein all the Medical Superintendents of concerned District Hospitals have participated and they raised the issue of shortage of manpower and inadequate infrastructure of said hospitals before the Principal but they also failed to address the problems being faced by hospital authorities since long times. They informed the Principal, the district hospital facing more than fifty percent shortage of specialist doctors against the sanctioned strength and also interm of paramedical staff. "After listening their problems raised by Medical Superintendent during the meeting, the Principal of Primer institution asked them to write a letter to Directorate of health services Jammu for addressing the shortage of manpower", said sources. The sources further said that however, most of health institutions across state have been facing shortage of manpower since long times either inordinate delay in recruitment or not proper posting of doctors and if the directorate health services will fulfil the vacancies of district hospitals, then the rural hospital will be suffered due to shortage of manpower. |
