Remote districts denied dialysis facility, others get add on machines | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 1: Contrary to the claims of the government, the peripheral districts have been deprived of the crucial dialysis facilities and those districts which already have the dialysis units are getting add on machines. According to sources, in Feburary this year, the then health minister had directed health directors of both divisions to immediately set in motion the process of making operational the Dialysis facilities at the district level hospitals across state. During announcement the Minister also directed the higher officials of health department for deputing two doctors and technicians from each district to undergo technical training for handling the Dialysis machines in the district hospitals. "Six months after the announcement, the health department could provide such facilities in five districts, only", sources said, adding that the needy patients were being forced to run from pillar to post to get dialysis done and many have reportedly died due to unavailability of affordable treatment. Sources further said that the government had identified ten districts but in later government decided to provide such facilities to all district hospitals. The scheme envisaged provision of free dialysis at the district level, but the same is yet to take off in remote districts of state due to lackadaisical approach of higher authorities. As a result, the long queues of patients can still be seen either waiting for their turn in existing dialysis unit at Super Speciality Hospital Jammu / Kashmir. Director health Services, Jammu/Kashmir were not available for comments despite repeated calls. |
