Ill prepared MVD defeating doorstep delivery of driving licenses | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 16: The Motor Vehicle Department had started home delivery of driving licenses and registration certificates to the applicants with much fanfare just few months ago in order to achieve its goal of zero foot-fall in office but lack of monitoring system to ensure timely delivery of documents, the initiative is getting defeated. Sources told Early Times that the initiative was taken in collaboration with Indian Post to provide facility of home delivery of licenses, registration certificates at their door step through speed post, which is expected to the reach to the applicants within two-three days but on the contrary, the documents are reaching to the applicants after much delay defeating the hyped initiative of MVD. "Although Rs 50 are being charged from the applicants to provide this facility and the service has been made mandatory but the Motor Vehicle Department has failed to implement system to ensure delivery of documents within specified time," they said adding that in one such case Assistant Regional Transport Department Samba had dispatched a license on August 20, 2018 through Speed Post service given by India Post but the license was delivered on September 8, 2018 to the applicant after 20 days which is the violation of the service guarantee from the MVD as well as from the Indian Post and similarly there are many such cases wherein documents were delivered after much delay. "MVD should coordinate closely with India post to the ensure timely delivery but department is least bothered on this aspect due to which applicants are getting late delivery which is creating huge difficulties to them," they said further adding due to much delay, the applicants had to pay visit to the concerning office to the know about the status of their documents, thereby defeating the very purpose of starting such a service. |
