Now Kashmir conspires against non-local officials | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 16: In a development that can affect national integration and further alienate the people of Kashmir from the rest of India, a "powerful lobby" in Kashmir is busy trying to conspire against the non-local IAS and IPS officials working in the valley. For the past few months, a section of local politicians and civil society faces have been quite often speaking against the postings of non-local officials in the province. From parties like Awami Itehaad Party headed by MLA Engineer Rashid to the ones like Awami National Conference, many including those in the business community have been lobbying against the non-local officials. Sources said such powers want to intensify their campaign only to convince Governor SP Malik to get Kashmir officials at the helm at key posts. Sources said even leaders from National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party may join the bandwagon. It was reliably learnt that one self styled Grand Mufti will also be supporting the voices. Recently a so called Civil Society Coordination Committee openly demanded that local KAS officers should be given more responsibility in the administration and that government should stop the practice of posting non local IAS and IPS officers in the state. JK CSCC member Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, who also heads the Awami National Conference had said that the "practice of installing non local IAS and IPS officers in the state since 1958 should come to halt now as the local KAS officers deserve much more responsibilities in the administration." Sources said this group has been holding "awareness campaigns across Kashmir to gain support for the drive." The common people are being told that "in the current scenario 95% non local officers have occupied vital positions in the administration which is contrary to the provisions laid down in the article 370 which was later approved in 1952 Delhi agreement." Sources said the group is likely to seek support of the High Court Bar Association and the Traders Community. A sources said some of the main mainstream parties in the valley are already providing "secret support to such forums." A senior official said they have intelligence inputs that such groups may launch a formal agitation to meet their designs of getting Kashmiri Muslim official in chair. Despite repeated attempts such forums couldn't be contacted for comments. |
