Hurriyat pressure: Except Sham Lal, no other Cong leader dares to hail announcement of civic bodies, Panchayat elections

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 16: Apparently due to pressure of the separatist groups incumbent leadership in Congress is finding it difficult to take decision on participating in coming civic bodies and panchayat elections.
Except former minister Sham Lal Sharma, no other Congress could dare to hail decision of the Governor administration to announce civic bodies and Panchayat elections.
Credible sources said that Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir has given directions to all senior leaders not to make any announcement on civic bodies and Panchayat elections. Mir and other Valley based Congress leaders are concerned about their own constituency so that could not getting guts to openly declare to participate in the ULB elections.
Credible sources further revealed that within minutes after announcement of civic bodies elections by the chief electoral officer Shalin Kabra, PCC chief directed all senior leaders not to make any announcement about participating in the elections.
Sources said that Valley based leaders of Congress are trying to convince party high command to support boycott call of PDP, NC and Hurriyat Conference to ensure party's victory in the next Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. "At the cost of the political future of Jammu based Congress, some party leaders are trying to following separatist narrative of boycott politics", sources said and revealed and indecisiveness of party leadership to announce participation in the elections is going to be proved suicidal for the party in Jammu region and other parts of the country.
