Madhav castigates NC, PDP for poll boycott | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 28: Asserting that the BJP is 'motivating' people in the state especially in the Kashmir valley to participate in Urban Local Bodies elections, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav on Friday alleged that National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party are making all out efforts to disrupt the poll process. "BJP is committed and determined for an overall development of Jammu and Kashmir," Madhav told mediapersons in a press conference. The four-phase ULB Polls will begin in Jammu and Kashmir from October 8. NC and PDP have already boycotted the polls over the issue of Article 35A. "We have reports that these parties are threatening and harassing the people and also the candidates who are willing to take part in the democratic exercise," he said. "We are happy that despite threats and terror, people are coming out in large number to contest polls because they want transparency on grass root level, which is not being digested by PDP, NC," said Madhav. "NC and PDP portrait themselves as nationalist parties but by announcing boycott of ULB polls, they have shown their true colour," he said and added that when it comes to grass root democracy under an ambit of Constitution, they both sail in the same boat. He further said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in his August 15 address said that ULB and Panchayat Polls will be conducted in Jammu and Kashmir constitutionally, adding, "I am sure that BJP again will come out with flying colours in ULB polls. He however, also welcomed Congress decision of contesting elections asserting that the party spreads negative agenda across the country and in Jammu and Kashmir too, they have nothing but only 'lie, lies and more lies' to distribute. On non-implementation of 73rd and 74th amendments in the Panchayat Act, Madhav said, "the amendments will soon be introduced once the Panchayat elections will be held following which Panchayats will start getting directing funding for developmental works." "When we were in coalition with the PDP, many times our people asked for implementation of amendments but they did agree to the decision and frankly speaking there was total Governance Deficit, which forced us to break alliance," he claimed. |
