1-month-old neta ready to 'buy' Srinagar polls | 'Sasurji using influence, damaadh ji offers nazrana' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 28: The son-in-law of a senior leader of a national party, who recently joined the same party, is allegedly ready to spend any amount to contest the upcoming Municipal polls for Srinagar and to win the same. Sources said while the "Sasurji" of this neta is using all influence in the civil and police administration to help his beloved son- in-law in the upcoming polls, the "damaadhji" is ready to spend any amount on the same. But the biggest problem which the duo is facing is that the "damaadhji", who joined politics, barely a month ago, doesn't figure in the voter list for Srinagar. Officials said as per the electoral rules, anyone who is not enrolled in the voters list from the area cannot contest the polls and this is what has come as a roadblock for the "damaadhji". Sources said the "damaadhji" who looks ahead to become Mayor of Srinagar, is trying hard to get himself enrolled in the voters list, more likely from Khanyar area of the congested old city, though otherwise, a per officials, "he figures from nowhere in Srinagar." Sources said the "Damaadji" visited the office of the concerned Tehsildar in old City as also the DC Office but was told that the process to enroll new voters has already ended over a month ago. Sources said this irked the "Damaadhiji" who immediately consulted "Sasurji", who hails from north Kashmir. Sources said the "Sasurji" contacted all his nears and dears in the administration to help out "Damaadhji" but all have been expressing inability. Sources said "No official wants to take risk of openly helping a leader from the party which is not is power and is key opponent of the ruling party at the center." Sources said the unable to get enrolled, the "Damaadhji" has offered initial "nazrana" of around Rs 20 lakhs to some officials to get him enrolled. Sources alleged that this one-month-old leader, even told officers at one of the concerned offices that he was willing to pay more provided he is enrolled as the voter. Sources said the official machinery is divided on the issue. "While some want to help him out, others are reluctant despite begin offered huge money as kickbacks," said sources in the state government. The issue has become a talk of the town at the government offices and the issue has reached the corridors of power in New Delhi as also the Election Commission. Sources said New Delhi is silently monitoring the development and would take appropriate action at appropriate time. Despite repeated attempts the "Sasurji" or "Damaadhji" couldn't be contacted for comments. |
