Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 28: The Air Force Station here began a two-day static display of military assets on Friday to commemorate the second anniversary of the 2016 surgical strikes and the 86th anniversary celebration of the Indian Air Force.
The event was organised with the aim to reach out to the students and the civil population of Jammu region and to familiarise them about the Indian Air Force in particular and the defence forces in general, defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said.
He said helicopters, remote piloted aircraft (RPA), mobile communication terminal and Air Force Garud commandos with their state-of-the-art weapons were the key attractions of the display.
Lt Col Anand said the event was inaugurated by Group Captain NK Choubey, Officiating AOC, Air Force Station, Jammu.
Students of various age groups and people of Jammu present at the event were treated to special displays of defence equipment, MI-17 helicopters and other activities, he said.
The spokesperson said a selfie point with a MI-17 helicopter at the backdrop was a major attraction.
On September 29, 2016, the Indian Army carried out "surgical strikes" on seven terrorist launchpads across the LoC as a response to an attack on its base in Uri earlier that month.
The Indian Army had said its special forces inflicted "significant casualties" on terrorists waiting there to cross onto the Indian territory.
