Social media posts help save livestock | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Oct 9: Recently a video was circulated on the social media network about non-availability of vaccination resulting in the death of livestock at the pastures in Kotranka sub district in Rajouri district. Taking the matter seriously, DDC Rajouri directed the district sheep husbandry officer (DSHO) to visit the area to authenticate the complaint & to provide necessary vaccination if needed. On interaction with the affected nomadic families, DSHO along with a team of doctors found people were demanding enterotoxaemia vaccine. "Enterotoxaemia vaccine is used to cure enterotoxaemia, also known as overeating or pulpy kidney disease caused by the bacteria. Young animals are most susceptible. Sudden and high mortality rates may occasionally occur in lambs and kids" said DSHO. He added adult animals are also susceptible to enterotoxaemia; they develop immunity due to frequent exposure to low doses of the toxins. DSHO also said no major outbreak has been reported in the area besides scattered cases were reported. DSHO has sent ten thousand enterotoxaemia vaccination to Kotranka and also deputed teams to visit the pastures like Khori hill, Kesari hill,Phalwari, Kandi naalah, Sawari and Khawas to vaccinate the affected animals. "There should not be any scarcity of medicine/vaccines in any nook and corner of the district. Action will be initiated against the concerned officials if in future such incidents of shortage of vaccination were reported" said DDC. |
