Early Times Report Jammu, July 12: Residents of Jammu's Sunjwan are up in arms against the authorities for neglecting the area. That the roads in the area are in a deplorable condition would an understatement. "A walk through the area, particularly near the nallah, gives a feel of Afghanistan. I am sure roads in the war-torn Afghanistan would be much better that here," some local residents told Early Times. Sarfaraz Nawaz, a local youth, said the main concern for the residents remains the dry nallah. He said the residents apprised the authorities concerned about the nallah's condition "three-four times, but to no avail." "It seems there are no funds available to repair this nallah. Around 40-45 households live along the nallah but nobody is concerned. In monsoons, the locality is flooded with water as the nallah is filled and hasn't capacity to hold even rain water," Nawaz said. He said the road falling along the nallah was renovated after the local residents pooled money. "Otherwise, it would have become impossible to walk along this road," he said. Another local resident Mohammad Tanveer said even a minor shower is sufficient for the nallah to get flooded. "During rains, if a child falls down here, he would be washed away. But nobody is bothered," he said. The residents urged Governor SP Malik to order a probe to check whether the funds released for the area are actually spent there. |
