Omar, Mehbooba mysteriously skipped July 13 functions, raise eyebrows | Dal mai kuch Kaala Hai! | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 13: The two former ministers in Jammu and Kashmir-Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah mysteriously skipped the July 13th function at old city, giving rise to speculations that both are racing against each other to prove themselves loyal before New Delhi. Social media on Saturday remained abuzz over the mysterious absence of NC Vice President Omar Abdullah and President Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti from the party functions held in view of July 13. Both leaders have served as the Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir in the past. The delegation of national conference was headed by its President Dr Farooq Abdullah while as the delegation of the PDP was headed by its Vice President Abdul Rahman Veeri. Why both Omar and Mehbooba skipped the functions continues to remain a mystery. As per the reports, both the parties are racing against each other to stay in good books of the BJP and not to annoy it any further. As assembly polls are likely to be held anytime this year, chances are high that the polls would through a fragmented mandate with no single party rule. Thus, the coalition seems inevitable with chances high that either NC or PDP or any third front may be required for the formation of the government. Also ever since BJP swept the general elections in May this year, the regional political parties seem to have toned down their rants against it while terming Modi as a promising face for India's future. Soon after Modi won the polls, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti issued a detailed statement in which she said that it is high time that country sees why the people of Jammu and Kashmir do not look upto New Delhi for the redressal of their grievances anymore. That lack of trust, said the PDP President, has to be restored and that can be done by no body except the Prime Minister who has come back with a huge majority. She added that Kashmir has remained a major challenge for successive Prime Ministers for last seven decades and that in order to end the continuing tragedy of Kashmir, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed staked his everything including his party's political capital, life time of service and went with the BJP in the hope that conflict of Kashmir will finally be resolved. "Now that the Prime Minister has come back with a renewed and a stronger mandate, we expect him to act decisively and resolve our problems in accordance with the political aspirations of the people," she said . On the other hand, National Conference too could be seen not making any anti BJP rants, leaving space open for the possible truce in future. "Politics in Jammu and Kashmir is peculiar. You don't know what will happen the next day. Therefore, it is imperative to leave a space open for fostering bonds of friends even with the rivals if need arises any time soon," a national conference functionary told Early Times. |
