Doda town turns into garbage dump, authority unmoved | | | Abid Hussain Wani Early Times Report Doda, July 13: The Doda town has virtually turned into a garbage dump as the authorities watch helplessly. The Akramabad area is situated just 0.5 km away from main headquarter and is inhabitated by at least 600 houses. Garbage heaps have piled up at every corner but the people of ward No 7 and 8 in municipal limits of Doda town are the worst sufferers. The locals alleged that the garbage collected from various parts of the town is dumped there. Yawer Zarger, a local said: " I am residing here for the last 27 years and I have never seen a safaikaramchari here. Sometimes safaikaramchari comes and cleans the streets but the lanes and drains are in a pathetic condition. We are deprived of basic amenities like water, electricity." Another residents Bashir Ahmed accused the local corporator for his failure to do the needful. "There are no street lights and the drains often remain chocked. Our area is totally neglected and is a true victim of apathy. People are left with no option but to throw waste in lanes." Residents appealed administration Doda to look into this matter and shift the garbage dump to other place. |
