KUPWARA, July 13: A cop posted with Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of Handwara Police was arrested with approximately 750 kilograms of heroin in Handwara area of this North Kashmir district, officials said today. Official sources told that based on a specific input, officers established a naka at Chogul during which the cop was arrested and the narcotic substance (heroin) concealed in a polythene bag weighing 750 gms was recovered from his possession. They said that One Santro car bearing registration number JK01V-1178 has also been seized in the matter. As per tentative market value it is worth over Rs 20 lakhs, they said. A police officer also confirmed the incident and identified the cop as Mushtaq Ahmad Pir (belt number 242) son of Abdul Ahad Pir, a resident of Kalmoona Vilgam. Mushtaq, according to the Officer, is working with police department's armed wing and was presently posted with BDS of Handwara police. He said that an FIR 177/2019 under section 8/21 NDPS Act was registered and further investigations taken up. Meanwhile sources said that, drug addiction among the youth has increased from past several years in Handwara area of Kupwara district. Basically there is unemployment among youth, and there are some agencies who wants to ruin the career of teenagers as well as of adolescents in this area, sources informed. Sources said that in past, contraband substance like brown sugar, charas, ganja and other narcotic drugs were being supplied from across the border in Teetwal, Karnah and Tangdar, and the authorities were succeeded in stopping that, unfortunately locals cultivate chars plants in their own fields or in forest lands. A well known sociologist in Srinagar Irshad Ahmad told early times that drug addiction is common among students especially of class 9th- 12th, and they use drug tablets like Anxit, Alprax, fevicol, thinner, SR solution and others, adding around 70- 1.10 lakh people are addicted in drugs in Kashmir valley only. "Drugs are dangerous and government has completely failed in bringing down the average of drug addicts in Kashmir valley, obviously it is increasing and the govt should think over this menace, otherwise the future generations will be at verge of destruction," said sociologist. |
