HC seeks step wise details of garbage collection, treatment | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 29: The State High Court on Monday granted week's time to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to reveal details regarding stepwise method of garbage collection; its segregation; its dumping and ultimate treatment accorded to it. As the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation started before the court, Moomin Khan, counsel appearing for Srinagar Municipal Corporation stated that status report in previous order was ready and he shall be placing it before the Court within one week. "Let the same be filed within one week," said a division bench of headed by Chief Justice Gita Mittal. Besides stepwise method of garbage collection etc, the court had also directed that the SMC shall specifically inform it about the manner in which garbage is collected from the households and the location of the dumping sites. "The SMC shall also give a list of the locations at which it has installed segregated dustbins in the city of Srinagar and the manner and schedule in which the garbage is collected therefrom," the court had said. The court was also to be informed by the Housing and Urban Development Department as to in what manner it has considered the request made by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation by its letter on 10th May 2018 for requisite financial support. "The decision taken by the official respondents on this account shall be placed before us within one week from today," the court added and on the request of counsel for the respondents, it listed the matter on August 19. The court had on May 29 issued a direction to the Housing and Urban Development Department to consider the request made by the SMC and take a decision thereon within three weeks. |
