Article 35A rumours: Omar-Mehbooba talks on cards | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 29: Former Chief Minister and National Conference President, Omar Abdullah and his counterpart from Peoples Democratic Party are likely to speak to each other on the issue of Article 35 A. Sources said the two leaders are likely to talk to each other on the issue in detail in the wake of media reports that New Delhi was planning to abrogate the Article 35 A that protects the State Subject rights of the people of the state. Sources said amid mounting tensions and deployment of additional security forces in the state especially in Kashmir, the middle rung leaders from the two parties have been holding informal interactions. Sources said the leaders from both the parties are of the opinion that the two leaders both of whom happen to be former Chief Ministers should meet to discuss future course of action. Sources said the suggestion of bureaucrat turned politician Dr Shah Faesal that all the leaders from the state should hold a joint meeting on the issue has only added to the possibility of the Omar Mehbooba talks in near future. The speculations over abrogation of Article 35 A have dominated the discourse in Kashmir over the past few days after the Centre decided to rush an additional 100 companies of central armed paramilitary forces to the valley. The mainstream political parties have vowed to resist any such move to tinker with the special status. On Saturday, a letter by a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official in Budgam asking employees to stock ration for at least four months and take other steps due to "forecast of deteriorating situation" in the Kashmir Valley "for a long period" created a flutter. The BJP has been saying that the Article 35A could be removed as it had been in their election manifesto. The central government however is yet to issue any clarification on the issue. |
