Gulmarg golf course hits a rough patch | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 01: The Gulmarg Golf Course, one of the top golf courses of Jammu and Kashmir has hit rough patch this year. Golfers complain that the Gulmarg Development Authority, the nodal agency for maintaining the Golf Course of Gulmarg has left open it for horses. Golfers say that the picturesque meadow of Gulmarg is dotted with horse manure and particularly one can easily see heaps of garbage and horse manure in golf course at Gulmarg. "At some places the horse manure is very dry, indicating the management is not paying any attention towards this mess" they said. Ghulam Rasool Guru, a noted golfer told Early Times that the Gulmarg Development Authority hasn't deputed specialized staff for maintaining the Golf Course as per the set norms. "Leave aside the removing of horse manure from Gulmarg Golf Course, management can't even maintain the turf as they lack training," he said. Golfers alleged that the Gulmarg Development Authority is drawing huge amounts from the state exchenquer but the condition of Golf Course is worsening with each passing day. "People from all over the world visit these tourist resorts but surprisingly authorities are not maintaining these picturesque golf courses. The pungent smell emanating from the garbage repels players and tourists as well," they said. The golfers sought immediate intervention of Commissioner Secretary Tourism and demanded that the Golf Course be handed over to Golf Development Authority. |
