Article 35 A: Kashmir parties to hold joint meeting soon | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 1: In the wake of reports about the possible abrogation of the Article 35 A in the coming times, the regional parties in Kashmir are planning to hold a joint consultative meeting soon. Sources said in the wake of a telephonic conversation between Peoples Democratic Party, President, Mehbooba Mufti and her National Conference counterpart, Dr Farooq Abdullah, the regional parties are into consultations. Sources said the statement of Peoples Conference President Sajad Lone that the local parties should be united in such times and a similar statement made by bureaucrat turned politician Dr Shah Faesal, the parties are likely to meet before Eid-ul-Azha. Sources said Shah Feasal is personally in contact with leaders of various parties and so is his ally partner and former MLA Engineer Rashid. Sources said the NC and PDP are also in touch with the Congress and want the joint session be held to decide future course of action. Sources said most of the politicians are in constant touch with each to evolve a mechanism to safeguard the law. Sources said the parties not only want to decide on the future course of action but if the issue could be taken up in a unified way by all the stakeholders before New Delhi. "There is also supposed to be party whip that no party leader speaks against members from the other party," said an insider. He said the local parties would look ahead for unity to "fight the cause as one voice and once strength." It is pertinent to mention that New Delhi looks ahead to scrap Article 35 A as the same was in the manifesto of Bharatiya Janta Party. The senior BJP leader, Ram Madhav, on the other hand has been of the opinion that any decision on Article 35 A will be in the interest of Jammu and Kashmir state. |
