Residents of Narwal Bala grappling with several civic issues | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 1: The residents of Narwal Bala alleged that they have been facing numerous civic issues and criticised the leaders who came for votes and made series of promises and finally never turned up to take stock of the problems of the area after winning elections. Continuing his mass contact programme, Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times, who would be contesting upcoming assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency met with the residents of the Narwal Bala and Vidhata Nagar Bathindi. Some residents of the area have been facing extreme poverty which can be gauged from the fact that they are living in dilapidated house whose roof tops have been leaking during this rainy season. "I have only one room which has developed cracks on walls as well as on roof top and continuously leaking whenever it rains resulting room gets filled with water and we spend sleepless night," said Vyaso Devi, Karishna. Kamlesh Sharma had the similar issue and said "My house is down from the road level due to which rain water remain inside the premises. Moreover the roof top of one of my rooms is collapsed and we are unable to repair it due to our miserable financial condition." Criticising PHE Department, residents said that water supply is very poor in the area. "Water supply remains off for 2-3 days due to which we face huge problem to meet daily need of water as without water nothing can be done. The water which is supplied is also not clean sometimes," Sharda Devi. "Roads were dug to lay down sewer lines but after completing work, these roads have not been repaired by blacktopping," said Sudesh Sharma, Anu Sharm, Dashana. "Drains are in dilapidated conditions and are not cleaned. Garbage has got accumulated which emanate foul smell. Mosquitoes have made these drains their breeding ground which has created danger of malaria and other diseases. We pay from our personal pocket for cleaning of roads and drains. In the name of facility there is nothing. Long power curtailments have made life difficult; water supply comes after many days. There is no sign of development. Five years ago there was no development and similar is condition right now. Leaders visit only during elections time and make fake promises and make fool the people to get votes and after elections are over they never show their face," said Prabha Wazir, Kamal Kant. Meanwhile, carrying out campaign, Munish Gupta also visited some part of Vidhata Nagar of Bathindi and heard their problem. "There was no drain facility from the government. We all residents collected money got it constructed. After lot of request, the tiles work was done in our lanes but the work which was done was of substandard quality and tiles have started breaking down," said Anil Kumar. Another resident, Zulfikar Shappoo said "The drains have been constructed but there is no outlet of it due to which water goes nowhere and remain stagnant, which create huge inconvenience to us."
Highlighting the problem of garbage, Shubham Sharma resident of village Narwal Bala Ward No. 1 said that local residents dump their garbage in a piece of land which is adjacent to his house and has been laying abandoned due to some dispute on it which has been creating huge nuisance. "People have been throwing garbage, trash of their house in this open land. Huge piles of garbage have started emanating stinking smell. During rainy season the situation has become worse. There is no authority to take notice of this malpractice which is making our environment polluted and making our life difficult. We are forced to inhale bad, stinking, foul air," he alleged. He further said that he registered complaints with Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Governor Grievance Cell, BDO Satwari but shockingly he didn't get any response from any of the authority. "The zero response from administration shows the non seriousness of these government machinery towards our environment which is being polluted by the some uncivilised people living nearby who needs to be taught a lesson," he said. "There was nallah crossing this land has also been blocked and encroached by some people living nearby it due to which rainy water find no passage," he added. |
