Asks to showcase Jammu region as top adventure travel destination

JAMMU, Sept 28: Emphasizing on promotion of tourism destinations of Jammu, Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai today asked the tourism department to optimally showcase the natural scenic grandeur and other resources of the region to increase tourist influx.
"There is a need to make extra efforts to attract the tourists from across the country and abroad to enjoy the ecstasies of adventure, leisure and religious tourism of the region" he told the functionaries of the department, here at a meeting.
Director Tourism Jammu Deepika Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, Tourism Development Authority, Surinsar-Mansar, Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Joint Director Showkat Mehmood, Deputy Directors Tourism Ansuya Jamwal, Mujib Ahmad Tak and Subha Mehta , beside engineers and senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
The Advisor referred to the immense potential of adventure tourism in Jammu and stressed on promoting the region as global adventure tourism destination.
The Advisor asked Director Tourism to identify and map the trekking routes in the area and develop it as trekkers' heaven by creating adequate facilities.
He also emphasized on the need of outsourcing the under -utilized accommodations, assets of department for realizing maximum revenue and enhancing tourist facilities in the area.
JKTDC and Tourism Development Authorities were asked to keep cleanliness at tourist destinations and around their establishments.
Seeking the status of tourist attraction projects in the region, the Advisor was told that the newly completed Patni Top Cable Car project is witnessing huge rush of visitors from within and outside the state.
The Advisor further stressed on increasing the frequency of promotional activities and advised the officials to formulate a detailed road map for realizing the full tourism potential of the region.
He also discussed plan for promotion of adventure activities in Pir Panchal and Chenab region. He highlighted the need to take up trekking in hilly Districts like Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri & Poonch and other areas having such potential and asked Director Tourism to set up minimum required infrastructure for the same like Tuck Shops/Units containing Adventure equipments. The Advisor stressed the need to promote Hiking, Paragliding, Kayaking, Rafting, Canoeing etc.
He suggested for involving bloggers and travel writers from other states in these expeditions for giving wide publicity to the events. This will help in bringing prominent trekking routes in the lime light and attract the youth to participate in such expeditions in future.
The Advisor also advised to submit a comprehensive proposal for filling up of vacant posts in the Department and simultaneously asked to put up proposal for creation of posts at various levels wherever required.
