SRINAGAR, Apr 10: Twenty three (23) persons including seven non-locals today tested positive for the Corona Virus from Jammu & Kashmir. As a result of this the positive cases of COVID-19 in the union territory crossed the 200 mark and reached 207.
As six persons have recovered and four others have died due to the Corona Virus the active cases of COVID-19 in Jammu & Kashmir are 197. From the Kashmir valley 16 fresh cases of Corona Virus came to the fore over the past 24 hours or so. From the Jammu division seven fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported today.
As on date there are 168 positive cases of Corona Virus in Kashmir while as number of such cases in the Jammu division are 39. Eight cases of COVID-19 were reported from the Srinagar district in Kashmir with the other cases from Kashmir being reported from North Kashmir. From the Jammu division six cases were reported from the Udhampur district.
Reports said that among the eight fresh cases from Srinagar reported today seven are residents of South India’s Kerala state. They were part of Tableeghi Jamaat and were staying put at Chattabal area. The eighth person was also with these people and all of them were in quarantine since March 27.
Spokesman for Jammu & Kashmir government tweeted, “Today's positives include 7 members of a religious congregation who were traced, and isolated on 27th March. Just proves that determined tracking works. Appeal please cooperate.”
Before Kansal, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary tweeted, “8 Covid +ve in #Srinagar today sounds panicky, but it’s not. This is a classic "tracing success story": found a grp of non-locals visitors, acted fast, quarantined. 7/8 are from group, 8th their local contact. Please help report.”
The government through the media bulletin informed that 46,158 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance in Jammu and Kashmir and so far 207 cases have tested positive for novel corona virus.
“Out of 207 positive cases, 197 are active positive, 06 have recovered and 04 have died. Furthermore, 7,726 persons have been kept in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 415 in Hospital Quarantine, 197 in hospital isolation and 27,891 under home surveillance,” said the bulletin.
The bulletin said that besides, 9925 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period. It said that till date 2754 samples have tested as negative till April 10, 2020. It said that Srinagar has 51 positive cases wherein 49 are active positive, one has recovered and one has died.
“Bandipora 36 positive cases with 33 active positive, two have recovered and one died, Baramulla 30 positive cases with 29 active positive, one died, Budgam 10 positive cases and all are active positive, Pulwama three positive cases-all active positive, Shopian and Kupwara with 13 positive cases each and all are active positive, and Ganderbal and Kulgam with two and three positive cases respectively all of whom are active positive,” said the bulletin.
Similarly, Jammu has six positive cases who are active positive, Udhampur 17 positive cases of which 16 are active positive and one died, while as Rajouri and Kishtwar have three and one positive cases respectively wherein all the three in Rajouri are active positive and the single positive case has recovered fully in Kishtwar district.
The bulletin also said that there are 19 positive cases of patients belonging to other States/UTs of which 17 are active Positive and two cases have recovered.
Meanwhile, according to the advisory issued in the media bulletin, smoking cigarettes/bidis /kreteks/sheesha/hookah/water pipes and other forms of smoking products can increase the chances of getting Covid-19 by transferring the virus by bringing hands to the mouth. “Smoking damages lungs, heart and other body parts and may increase your risk of getting a severe case of Covid-19,” the advisory reads, while emphasizing upon smokers to quit smoking.
People are informed to use ‘Aarogya Setu’ mobile application developed by Government of India that uses Bluetooth and GPS to inform when one might be possibly at risk of exposure. The users of the app are empowered with better information on the potential risk of infection, self- assessment tools and contextual advice. The app can be downloaded for Android on Google Play and IOS on Apple App Store.
