To overthrow Mayor, NC, BJP secretly join hands in SMC
Beginning of an end?

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 11: Controversy seems to have become a very inseparable feature of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) wherein dangers have begun to hover around the chair of the corporation’s mayor with a major coup seems to have been in the offing.
As per the sources privy to this development, national conference in nexus with the BJP is battling hard to overthrow the incumbent mayor and place their own man on the position.
As per the reports, a non- confidence motion has been passed by scores of corporators- most of them belonging to BJP and NC- against the present mayor of Srinagar. “Been informed that BJP has sought a ‘Vote of No Confidence’ in the SMC against me. Those who have submitted the motion are either elected members/office bearers of BJP or unambiguously associated with BJP. This is the second such motion by BJP against me within 6 months. The BJP+ group has claimed they have support from @INCIndia and
@JKNC_ - which both parties have clearly, officially and unambiguously denied. The incumbent Dy. Mayor @Parvaiz_Qadri has also denied these claims. There are also apprehensions of forged signatures on affidavits as well as attempts to break the law - since the 6 month bar since the last floor test hasn’t expired yet. This is a repeat of what was attempted in SMC on 26th December, 2019. That this is being done in the MIDST of an unprecedented pandemic is another travesty. That it is being claimed and alleged that INC and BJP are on the same page is bizarre beyond comprehension and hints at some clear illegality and foul play. We will fight this democratically and legally as this is yet another litmus test for the mainstream. This is the second such attempt in 6 months and we are certain of proving our majority and defeating this blatantly illegal, undemocratic maneuvering,” SMC Mayor in a series of tweets said.
However, both the national conference, as well as the BJP, are keeping their cards close to the chest, not revealing in public that two parties- otherwise arch-rivals- have discreetly joined hands to overthrow the incumbent mayor.
If sources are to be believed, the coup aims at benefiting former deputy mayor of SMC who was in the recent past ousted from his post. “There are chances that the former deputy mayor could strive for the lost glory and the central stage again in the corporation. While he may enjoy the limelight, it will be NC and the BJP that will wield the real power in the corporation from the backstage,” sources divulged.
