Loss making JK Cements employees on verge of starvation, salaries not paid for 2 years | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 4: Hundreds of employees of loss making JK Cements are at the verge of starvation as the Corporation has failed to release their salaries for last two years now. According to sources loss making JK Cements is unable to pay the salaries to its employees and workers and the Government is also not in a position to provide financial support to the Corporation to tide over the prevailing crisis which it is facing. Sources said the employees if the Corporation are running from pillar to post for release of their wages but to no avail as the Government has also failed to redress the problem and take an effective initiative in this regard. Sources said the employees who retired since 2014 are worst hit as they have neither been paid the gratuity, leave salary and other benefits due to them on retirement. These people are running from hand to mouth and some are under a huge debit trap, sources added. Sources said the Corporation is not in a position to pay their due amount which otherwise it ought had to pay to them on their superannuation. Some of these retires suffering from cronic ailments are unable to undergo surgeries and other sort of treatment due to lack of money. Sources said even some are unable to perform the marriage ceremonies of their children which they had planned on the money received on retirement as Corporation withheld this all after suffering losses. A group of retired employees have also sought intervention of Governor Manoj Sinha in this regard appealing him to save them from further distress. They have also demanded a probe to ascertain as to ascertain how a profit making corporation of erstwhile State of J&K suffered such a heavy loss. They said the Corporation was marching on the path of profit upto 2012 and afterwards due to faulty policies of the management it suffered heavy loss and the employees had to bear the brunt of the same since then. They said the MDs which were outsiders did not think about the betterment of Corporation but maintained such a monopoly which put it into a heavy loss and the employees had to bear the brunt of the same. They said not only the serving employees but retirees are at the verge of starvation and in their old age the retured employees are not even in a position to purchase medicines for treatment of their ailments. |
