GMC Rajouri on ventilator
CT Scan defunct for years, patients have to wait for 3-4 months for ultrasound

Early Times Report

Rajouri, Feb 4: The Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri is virtually running on ventilator.
Sources told Early Times that there are huge lapses in terms of health facilities which can be gauged from the fact that CT-Scan has been lying defunct for the past many years while the patients get appointment for ultrasound after 3-4 months.
“Nothing has changed in terms of health facilities after the establishment of GMC Rajouri. People had great hopes about getting full-fledged health facilities but they are still facing huge problems,” sources added.
They said that there is a very small technical snag in the CT Scan but the administration has failed to get it repaired due to which the machine has been lying defunct for the past two years. “Being a border district, there is a heavy rush at GMC Rajouri but due to lack of facilities, patients face lot of difficulties. Patients usually get their ultrasound done in private clinics. For getting a Colour Doplar test done, patients have to wait for months,” they said.
They said that people from Chasana in district Reasi also visit GMC Rajouri as it’s near to their area but they too also face disappointment.
An ailing female patient told Early Times doctors have asked her to get an ultrasound done but she has been given an appointment date after two months.
Besides, the hospital administration is not paying any proper attention towards developing its infrastructure. The main gate of the hospital has not been fixed as both the parts of the gate have been lying down, they alleged. Even the front hoarding of the hospital with its name inscribed on it, is damaged and has not been fixed till date.
Parking is another issue, which has become a nuisance for the visitors. Vehicles inside the premises are generally parked haphazardly as no control of management has been put in place by the administration.
The Principal of GMC Rajouri Dr Kuldeep Singh, when contacted, informed that a new CT Scan machine will be placed soon and a team in this connection had visited the hospital.
Talking about the long appointment dates for ultrasound, he said that there is only one radiologist in the hospital, which is the main reason.
Regarding the entrance gate, the Principal said that as construction work is going on in the hospital the tippers, dumpers carrying material have broken the gate.
But when the Principal was asked about the damaged hoarding, he said that during a protest, it was damaged by the protestors and he can’t be fixed it again and again.
