Baramulla DDC election indicates formation of Third Front in Valley
Apni Party, PC likely to utilize Muzaffar Baig's experience to provide alternative of NC, PDP in Valley

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 14: Election of Safeena Baig as chairperson of District Development Council (DDC) Baramulla is an indication of the formation of Third Front in Kashmir Valley to take on two mainstream parties-National Conference and PDP.
Safeena Baig is not only an independent candidate, she is wife of former Deputy Chief Minister and veteran politician Muzaffar Hussain Baig, one of the founders of the PDP under the leadership of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Apni Party led by Altaf Bukhari and Peoples’ Conference (PC) headed by Sajjad Gani Lone supported Safeena to defeat Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) candidate Qurat-ul-Bashir of PDP who lost election despite having seven members in his kitty. Reliable sources said that before elections of the chairperson and vice-chairperson of DDC Baramulla, discussions have already started between Apni Party and Peoples’ Conference to form Third Front in the Valley to fight with NC and PDP. “Now political stalwart of J&K Muzaffar Hussain Baig is also likely to join to give strength to the new front”, sources said and added that Muzaffar Baig, who was close confident of late Mufti Sayeed, has already become politically inactive during the last some months.
After being sidelined by party president Mehbooba Mufti, one of the founders of PDP Muzaffar Hussain Baig had resigned from the primary membership of the party on November 14, 2020. He had resigned from following a disagreement over seat sharing for the forthcoming DDCs elections.
Baig was annoyed with the party leadership over surrendering before NC in DDC elections, especially in the Kashmir Valley.
“By managing victory of his wife as chairperson of DDC Baramulla, Baig has shown his power to the PDP leadership. Now he is ready to utilize his experience to provide an alternative in the politics of Kashmir Valley”, sources said.
