Akhnoor, June 19: 1st Pitamber Lal Sharma Memorial Cricket Tournament was inaugurated today at Govt. Higher Secondary School Akhnoor. The tournament was Inaugurated by Chief Guest of the match Sham Singh Langeh (General Secretary JKCA District Jammu), Guest of honor Sunny Bral (Manager Singh Challenger Cricket Club Akhnoor) and Special Guest Atul Sudan (Vice President Press Club of Akhnoor) where as this knockout tournament is organised by Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor.
In his address, Sham Singh Langeh congratulated the organisers and the participating teams for coming together with a spectacular launch. He said such tournaments are much needed to keep youth fit. He appealed both teams to play with team spirit and discipline.
Addressing the gathering, Atul Sudan (Vice President Press Club of Akhnoor) said that sports activities have a significant impact on the social and mental development of youth adding that games inculcate leadership qualities and imbibe spirit of discipline.He also added that youth engagement in sports activities will also play a significant role in distancing youth from drug addiction which at present has evolved as a big menace.
The first match of tournament was played between Akhnoor Cricket Club and Jourian Warriors. Akhnoor Cricket Club won the toss & decided to bat first. Batting first Akhnoor Cricket Club scored 151/8 in 20 overs with top contributions of Deepak Sharma 37(21), Koushal Sharma 21(17), Sunil 19(12), Ajay Sharma 18(15) from Jourian Warriors Randeep Singh got 3 wickets, Sandeep Singh got 2 wickets while Ajay Sharma and Vansh shared 1 wicket each. While chasing Jourian Warriors scored 128/9 in 20 overs. Lucky 28(16), Randeep 18(17), Abhishek 10(12) were top scorers where as from Akhnoor Cricket Club Anshu and Nishant shared 3 wickets each while Ajay, Parveen and Koshal shared 1 wicket each. Nishant Singh was judged the man of the match for his performance. Akhnoor Cricket Club beat Jourian Warriors by 23 run and entered in the Semi final. Sonu Malhotra & Rajinder Sharma were umpires and Nikhil Jamwal was scorer.
Others present on the occasion were Rajinder Sharma (President Management Little Flower High School Akhnoor) Raman Sharma, Sumit Rajput, Chandan Sharma, Rahul Mani, Deepak Mangotra, Parveen Sharma, Sharavan Mehta, Raman Sharma, Sanjay Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Vinod Mangotra, Dev Bhagel, Rahul Gupta, Gunjan Singh, Rishu and Vasu.
