‘Bureaucrats have replaced Britishers’ | 70-years on, Rajouri village has no PHE water supply line | | Ankit Kessar
Early Times Report
Rajouri, June 19: It has been seventy years since India got independence but Panchayat Gurdan Chawa in Rajouri district is still without a PHE water supply facility. Locals told Early Times that they have to walk several kilometres to fetch water for their daily needs. Interestingly, the Panchayat Gurdan Chawa is just 2 kms away from Rajouri town, yet it is deprived of the PHE water supply line. “There is no pipeline laid down in the area and the entire panchayat is dependent on two natural springs which are around 4-5 km away from their village. We tread on foot to fetch water,” the residents said. The panchayat has around 2000-2500 souls yet they are deprived of basic amenities. “We got independence from British nearly seventy years ago but now bureaucrats have taken their place, who seem least bothered about our plight,” they alleged further adding that politicians viist them only during elections to seek votes but after the polls are over, they disappear. They alleged that Executive Engineer Rajouri believes in giving false promises and never acts on the complaints. They appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri to visit the panchayat to take first-hand account of their problems. Meanwhile, when Early Times contacted the Executive Engineer Rajouri Mushtaq Chowdhary, he said that he had visited the villages and their grievances would be redressed soon. |
