Jammu, June 19: Miscreants in Kashmir are leaving no stone unturned to risk the lives of miniscule number of Kashmir Pandit, families who continue to live in the valley only to serve the people. The Srinagar police have exposed one such plot whereby the life of a Kashmiri pandit businessman was risked by falsely calling them as informers of security forces. The Srinagar Police have arrested one Samiullah Chalaroo, a resident of the Chhattabal area of the summer capital. Samiullah, who has done his bachelor's in computer applications (BCA), was operating fake social media accounts to target one of the Kashmiri Pandit family by spreading canard against the latter of being an informer of security forces. Trouble arose for the Pandit family, which runs medical store in Srinagar, on June 16, when social media was used to label them as informers of security forces. The family was targeted on Facebook and Twitter by fake handles like Sana Nazki and Ruwa Andrabi which said that the Pandit family informed police about the militant killed in an encounter in Nowgam area on the fateful day. Addressing media, Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar Sandeep Choudhary said that despite having no role in an anti-terror operations, the life of an innocent family was risked by branding them as security force informer on social media. Taking a serious note of the social media canard, a special investigation team led by Superintendent of Police Sajad Shah started the investigations on war footing and cracked the case within few hours. Within hours they were able to trace and track down Samiullah, the main culprit. As per the police, the accused is a “habitual offender”, habitual of creating fake accounts to target people. The attempt was to make the situation vulnerable for the Kashmiri Pandit who runs a successful business in Valley. The police said they have specialized technologies to get whereabouts of fake account holders within minutes of such crimes. “It takes us a few clicks to get the details of such fake account holders so nobody should dare to do such mischief,” said a senior police official on the condition of anonymity. |
