Restaurants remain closed in J&K, admin in no mood to relax restrictions | Food joints reopen after lockdown in Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Goa, Karnataka, other places | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 17: As the second wave of COVID-19 has relented, governments in many states and union territories have allowed the restaurants and eateries to resume their operations, but J&K administration seems to be in no mood to allow food joints to restart their operations. Restaurants with 50% capacity have resumed operations in Delhi, Punjab, Karnataka, Mumbai, Rajasthan, Goa and many other places. Restaurant owners from Jammu region have stated that they had approached the authorities to let them restart their operations but they were sent back. A restaurant owner while talking to Early Times said, “COVID-19 cases and the mortality rate have declined during the past few days in Jammu region. We were hoping that the authorities will allow us to restart our activities, but when we approached the officials they told us that we have to wait.” He said, “If the restaurants can open in the national capital and other places, then why can’t these food joints reopen in the Jammu region.” Another restaurant owner said, “Thousands of people are dependent upon restaurants for their livelihood, but if we are not allowed to restart our operations, we will be left with no other option other than disengaging our staff.” He said, “The government needs to pay some attention towards our plight and allow us to open our establishments at least with 50% capacity. It’s unfortunate that no one wants to listen to us. If the restaurants continue to remain closed thousands of people associated with the food industry will lose their jobs.” He said, "Many of us pay huge amounts as rent and have taken loans from the banks on which we have to pay interest. If our establishments remain closed we may turn bankrupt." |
