Medicos at PHC Kerru leave injured youth in lurch | Visits pvt practitioner for first aid, seeks action against erring staff members | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Early Times Report
Kishtwar, June 19: Doctors at Primary Health Center Kerru in block Nagsini in this frontier district left an injured youth unattended. According to the details available with Early Times, an 18 year old Sabor Kelam was injured after he fell on barbed wires in the area. Sabor was immediately rushed to PHE Kerru by his cousin where he allegedly faced harassment. “When I reached the hospital - two doctors and other staff members were present at PHC Kerru. My hand was bleeding, doctors made me shuttle from one room to another, ultimately they did nothing and I was forced to visit a private medical shop” Sabor Kelam told Early Times. He said that due to excessive bleeding he fell unconscious. “The private medical practitioner somehow managed to stop the flow of blood and my family later shifted me to Kishtwar where doctors treated me.” He said that his two fingers suffered extensive injuries and at one stage he thought he would lose both his fingers. He urged upon the government including Additional Chief Secretary Health Atul Dulloo to look into the matter. He also appealed to the district administration to take necessary action against the erring staff posted in the area. Mohammad Sharief Kelam, father of victim Sabor said that PHC Kerru is of “no use” for the local people and added that it lacks all the basic facilities required at any health institution. “What happened with my son is unfortunate. Let this thing not get repeated in future,” he said. It is pertinent to mention that only a few months ago the local DDC member locked the PHC Kerru after he found all the employees posted in this important health institution absent, but the department didn’t take any action against the erring employees. |
