Rains lash plains as upper reaches receive fresh snow in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 22: Light rains lashed plains in Kashmir while upper reaches received fresh snowfall, official said on Saturday. The weather department has predicted widespread rain and snow till Sunday. The rains also brought relief from the cold across Kashmir. Except for the tourist resorts of Gulmarg and Pahalgam, the night temperatures in other parts of the Valley remained above the freezing point. Gulmarg received fresh snow last night. As per the Meteorological official, Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded minus 6.5 degrees Celsius minimum temperature and Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded minus 2.4 5 degrees Celsius. The night temperatures recorded at Srinagar, Qazigund, and Kupwara were 2.3, 0.2 and 1.4 degrees Celsius, respectively. The Meteorological Department has forecasted a two-day wet spell in Jammu and Kashmir from today. "A fresh active Western Disturbance (is) most likely to affect J&K and adjoining areas from January 22. Under the influence of this system, widespread rain/snow most likely to occur during 22nd and 23rd January. The system will most likely concentrate over Jammu Division, Pir Panchal Range and south Kashmir," MeT said on Friday evening. "Moderate rain in plains with snow over higher reaches (heavy rain/snow at isolated places) of Jammu division is expected during the period ( of the inclement weather)," it added. "Light snow over plains and moderate snow over middle and higher reaches of Kashmir division is expected particularly over northwestern, northern and central parts of Kashmir." "Moderate snow over plains of South Kashmir with heavy snow at isolated places over higher reaches of South Kashmir is expected during the above period," they further added. |
