As Jammu bears ‘highest’ mortality, Govt continues with musical shows | Aaja Nach Le! | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 22: At a time when Jammu has been witnessing seemingly “highest mortality” of Covid cases in the Union Territory in the last few days, the J&K administration continues to host musical shows. While most of the cases are reported from Jammu province, there’s no end to festivities in the region. On January 21 when Jammu continued to witness most of the deaths with four reported from the winter capital region and one from Kashmir, a musical show was held in the affected province. As per the official handout, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages Rajouri Organised an online Folk and Patriotic Music Program in connection with the Celebration of ICONIC WEEK and as a part of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav at Poonch. “The event was organised under the overall supervision of Secretary JKAACL Rahul Panday, while Additional Secretary Sanjeev Rana monitored the event. The Folk music was presented by Pardeep Khanna and Party and Gulnaz Chouhan and party, Dr Alamdar Adam Special officer for cultural Activities (SOCA) Rajouri-Poonch presented a vote of thanks to the Artists. Dr Alamdar Adam said that due to Covid restrictions the event was conducted online. He also appealed to the general public to follow Covid-19 guidelines and adopt Covid appropriate behavior,” the handout said. Ironically, the picture of the event released by the government showed the artists in violation of the Covid appropriate behavior. None of them seen was maintaining social distance nor facemask was being put on as could be seen in the picture. The concerned citizens in know of the matter said what was the necessity to host the musical show amid “Covid crises”. “Thousands are infected and Jammu is yet again witnessing high mortality. Amid such a critical situation holding of musical shows makes it abuse to the crises,” said a Jammuite on the condition of anonymity. The J&K government is facing severe criticism for allegedly “focusing more on singing and dancing shows than on good governance.” Ironically even on the day two non Muslim teachers were killed in Jammu in last October, the government had kickstarted Jashne Dal on the same day. But a senior official refuted the public allegations that government was busy with musical shows. He said the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha was personally reviewing the COVID-19 situation with the members of Covid Task Force, DCs & SPs and discussed the various steps being undertaken across the UT to tackle the surge. The Lt Governor observed that the emerging situation has necessitated strict observance of Covid Appropriate Behavior and COVID SOP’s by the general public. |
