Srinagar, Mar 9: A sarpanch was shot dead by militants in Kashmir on Wednesday evening, official sources said. The attack on Sarpanch took place hours after a person was killed and 13 were injured in a mysterious blast on Wednesday afternoon in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. The sources said that a Sarpanch, identified as Sameer Ahmad Bhat, was shot at in Khonmoh area on Srinagar outskirts by gunmen. "He was critically injured and shifted to a Srinagar hospital, where he succumbed to injuries," they said. Soon after the incident, senior security officials reached the spot. The area has been cordoned to trace the militants involved in the attack. Police have not issued any statement on the incident. This is the second killing of any panchayat member in the last one week. On March 2, Panch Mohammad Yaqoob Dar was shot dead by unidentified militants in south Kashmir's Kulgam district. |
