Is JKCA playing fair or old tricks still running the show?

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 9: J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) is duty bound to ensure that cricket thrives and flourishes in the Union Territory. But one glaring question has always been is it even doing the bare minimum? Or is it still stuck at its old school ways of favouritism. One may think as to what keeps the officials and the association always on the path of controversies. One can't help but wonder what consistently lures the officials of JKCA to always stay on the path of controversies.
Likewise, office bearers of JKCA have always made sure that anyone given any role or responsibility in the association is equally capable of taking orders.
The formation of the 3 member adhoc committee, is one such example. The constitution of the said committee is completely against the fundamentals laid down by the Lodha Commission. The qualification for the committee seems to be the proximity with the ruling dispensation and it is serving only as a mouthpiece for the same.
The said committee then went on to constitute another sub-committee, which has a hilarious history of its own. One of the members in the committee was a selector earlier and has already been stripped off of his position due to his biased activities and one other member has shamelessly joined the committee despite being beaten up by the players in the past for his extremely evident corrupt and malafide practices.
Would anyone with good intentions of making the game progress appoint people with such shady pasts to manage the affairs of the association?
Maybe no responsible individual would reach this decision but not much can be expected from a committee whose member himself was a Cricketer and played nationally and internationally and was made to flee from the state due to his mischievous activities in the past came back to not only have a position in the committee but also shamelessly run the affairs and select teams for all age groups.
The coaches and selectors are puppets in his hands and hence he alone calls the shots which are only implemented blindly by the coaches and selectors of various age groups. What has made these coaches and selectors so helpless? Are financial gains the reason?
The players selected for the teams are either pleasers of this ex cricketer.
The selection process is largely based on basis of proximity to these honchos and not on the basis of performance.
The game has gone from bad to worse. But the committee is behaving like a blind cat and is ignorantly busy patting it's back for selection of few players in IPL. It is years of sweat and blood that these players have shed to reach there.
Rejecting players with talent and giving entry to players who 'please' the officials is an old tradition that has been continuing in JKCA since forever.
The political influence on the association has also always been there. Recently it has become even more rampant and blatant. The members are known to create lobbies and import players as well as staff from Delhi to get their desires fulfilled. Their mentality of being the 'masters' and the players being the 'slaves' is a result of their malafide actions. The way teams are formed is also an evidence of that. Most of the members have a serious conflict of interest as well. One of the members is parallely running a Cricket academy as well and often sends his disciples as coach or assistants with JKCA teams.
The extent of malice is such that individuals who are government employees and are physical education teachers are being involved in managing the affairs of the cricket academy making complete mockery of the rule of law as well as sabotaging the future of children in schools by spending entire time in the cricket academy rather than in the school. This also raises a question on the education administration and it's negligence.
Puppets are ensured benefits by appointing them as managers, coaches, etc. and sent on tours with playing teams. These tactics have resulted in the recent humiliating defeats of the J&K team in the Ranji Trophy, Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, etc. and other regional tournaments as well.
The estimated loss percentage would be more than 80%. These defeats will continue to multiply because the association officials refuse to mend their ways.
The BCCI needs to keep an eagle's eye on JKCA and it's functioning. Mere allocation of funds is a half hearted job and what is important is to check and review its utilisation.
