RUMSA teachers left in lurch | | | During the past few months, youth who had applied for different posts in departments or were working as contractual employees are on roads staging protests for one or other reason. The government has withdrawn posts, it has terminated the contracts of the educated youth rendering many jobless and shattering the hopes of others, who were hoping to get government jobs. Highly qualified youth appointed on contractual basis under RUMSA scheme are sitting on a dharana in Jammu demanding that they be re-employed. But no one is listening to them. Many among the protesters are PhD holders. The government had appointed 110 consolidated teachers at the consolidated salary of Rs 30,000 per month under the scheme. They were assigned the jobs of teaching in higher secondary schools in far-flung areas. Their performance was appreciated by one and all but after the COVID-19 pandemic broke out their services were discontinued. Now, many schools in far-off areas have become defunct. The schools have reopened but there are no teachers. On one hand the government is claiming that it’s providing employment to the youth but on the other they are being rendered jobless. The funds for the RUMSA scheme are provided by the Centre despite that their contracts are not being renewed. The unfortunate part is that no one is listening to them and they are moving from one door to another. It’s not only the teachers who have become the victims of the official apathy. The unemployed dental surgeons have been hitting the streets everyday demanding they be provided with jobs. The border battalion, CISF and BSF aspirants and others too have been left disappointed. It appears that the present regime has failed to devise a comprehensive package or a policy for the youth. There is complete chaos and mismanagement. The Centre needs to take note about what’s happening in J&K and why the bureaucrats have failed to live upto the expectations of the people. The arbitrary decisions have disappointed a common man. He needs to be taken into confidence and told that the government cares for him. He can’t be left to fend on his own. Mindset of the people at the top needs to change. Addressing the issues of people holds the key. |
