Early Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 12: Has the state unit of the BJP dissociated itself from the statements made recently by two BJP MLCs, Ashok Khajuria and Ramesh Arora? The answer seems to be in the affirmative.
Denouncing the statement of Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and commenting on the alliance of the BJP with the PDP, Khajuria had said that alliance between BJP and PDP was "immoral" and described the Deputy Chief Minister's statement on Hizb commander Burhan Wani as an attempt to "save his chair". The Deputy Chief Minister had described the killing of Burhan Wani on July 8 as an "accident" and said had the security forces knew that he was among the holed up terrorists, they would have acted differently - a statement that cause a sort of furore among the nationalists across the nation.
Ashok Khajuria had not only denounced the alliance between the BJP and the PDP and debunked the claim of the Deputy Chief Minister, but had also declared that any action that was harmful for the nation shall be opposed tooth and nail.
Ramesh Arora had, on the other hand, gone a step further and asked the party to either act or quit the state government. "The BJP had become unpopular; it will be destroyed in case the BJP (ministers" didn't act. They must act or quit the government he had said.
What was most striking was the fact that while Ashok Khajuria held a press conference to register his resentment, Ramesh Arora made the statement during the meeting of the core group of the party.
That the statements of the BJP MLCs had not gone down well with the party leadership became clear on Thursday, when the party's chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi said in his press conference that there was some confusion created by the statements of our leaders.
"There was some confusion created by the statements of our leaders and therefore, we wanted to make it amply clear that the official stand of our party is that we are ready for talks with any party, group, or organization but within the framework of Indian Constitution…The party (BJP) entered into an alliance with the PDP to provide a responsible Government with a pledge of ensuring equitable development of all the three regions. Ours is not an alliance of compulsion but the honour of the mandate of the people," said Sunil Sethi.
All this only serves to demonstrate that all is not well with the BJP and that there are senior leaders in the party who are unhappy with their own party because of its conduct and the conduct of the party ministers.
