Early Times Report

Kishtwar, Aug 12: At least 15 persons, including DSP (Headquarters, Doda) and SHO of Doda police station, were today injured in clashes that erupted after police tried to arrest the anti-India sloganeers soon after Friday prayers in the town.
A few days back, some youth had raised anti-India slogans in Doda town while protesting against the killings of people during the Kashmir unrest. The business community today defied the shutdown call and the town witnessed a peaceful day.
Police sources said people resisted an attempt of police to arrest the youth outside Masjid Noor Doda who had raised anti-India slogans a few days back. Police also foiled their attempt to march towards Jamia Masjid, Doda, which led to clashes between youth and police. The protesters also stoned police.
In the clashes, 15 persons, including DSP (HQ, Doda) Abdul Qayoom Runyal, SHO, Police Station, Doda, Udhay Shankar Wazir, two cops and 10 civilians were injured.
The situation was stopped from worsening further due to the intervention of elderly people. Later, the protesters marched towards the Jamia Masjid and condemned the police action. Seerat Committee, Doda, has called for a three day shutdown against the police action.
Sources said protesters also held at least four police personnel hostage who had gone to the masjid for offering Friday prayers, but with the intervention of elders, they were released.
People have demanded the immediate release of the arrested youth.
