Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 12: Despite contributing considerable part of their income in Employees State Insurance Corporation for social security and health insurance scheme , workers in private sector are not provided facilities they are entitled to.
Sources told Early Times that the workers working in private companies, factories have to face tough time during their visit to ESI dispensaries to get treatment and prescription from the doctors during any health problems as none has diagnostic laboratories for preliminary tests and are referred to ESI Hospital.
"The doctors deployed in dispensaries across the Jammu region refer the patients (workers/ dependents) to visit the concerned ESI Hospital for getting even ordinary diagnostic tests done," they said further adding that it is advisable by the most of the doctors to get some preliminary test done before prescribing medicines to the patients to ascertain the exact cause of ailment but in absence of these diagnostic laboratories in ESI dispensaries workers have to face difficult time to visit from one place to other. They further added that patients visiting at ESI Dispensaries in Jammu are referred to go ESI Hospital Bari Brahmana for various diagnostic tests advised by the doctors but problem doesn't stop here, when patients visit the ESI Hospital Bari Brahmana they are again referred to the laboratories empanelled by the ESIC or to visit the Government Hospitals. Frustrated with the illogical and cumbersome procedure of the ESIC, the patients who contribute more than six percent of their income as ESI are compelled to go to private laboratories for various tests at their own expense, they said further adding that if ESIC can't provide diagnostic laboratories in ESI Dispensaries, at least doctors should be given authority to refer the patients to the nearby empanelled diagnostic laboratories to get their test done immediately so that patient may not face physical and metal harassment but nothing has been done to sort it out till date.
They further informed that for a case in absence of laboratories if 50 patients visit to an ESI dispensary on a particular day and out of which 30 are referred to the ESI Hospital only for tests which is sheer exploitation of the workers.
