GoI, JK Govt indecisive over handing Kashmir to Army
8/12/2016 11:32:35 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 12: The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh announcing in Rajya Sabha that Kashmir won't be handed over to Army after the Amarnath Yatra concludes on August 17 has emboldened the separatists and they are planning to pro-long the ongoing agitation.
Sources told Early Times the fear of Kashmir being handed over to Army had kept the separatists on tenterhooks and they had stopped calling for chalos. Soon after the Union Home Minister ruled out any such possibility the separatists issued yet another calendar pro-longing the shutdown till August 18 and asking people to march towards Lal Chowk on August 13 and 14.
If the sources are to believed the separatists have been told by their handlers sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) to keep the pot boiling and somehow foment trouble in the Srinagar city. "Separatists know it very well that a few killings in Srinagar can add fuel to the fire and would help them to appease their bosses sitting in PoK and Pakistan," sources added.
"The speculations about Army would be called in had pushed the separatists on back foot but the recent announcement of the Union Home Minister has relieved them," said a source.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "The Government of India should reconsider its decision and should call the Army to diffuse the present crisis in Kashmir. If Army is given the charge for a few days it would pave the way for restoration of normalcy in the restive Kashmir Valley. Keeping Army away is helping the separatists to pro-long the prevailing halla-gulla in the Valley."
He said, "Maximum people in Kashmir are fed up of the continuous shutdown and if they are provided adequate security they would love to resume their daily chores. Separatists at the behest of their masters sitting in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) are issuing protest calendars and have taken entire Kashmir as hostage."
A Kashmir watcher said, "Miscreants are calling the shots and have made the lives of the common people miserable who for the past 36-days have been forced to stay within the four walls of their houses and follow the diktats of the rogues who are on the streets. Handing over Kashmir to Army would have taken care of the stone pelters and would have restored the faith of the people. There is complete breakdown of the administration as the ministers have fled and elected representatives are hiding behind their guards or have moved out of Kashmir."
Sources said, "The Government of India keeping Army away from the scene has disappointed the people who are waiting for the peace to return so that they can restart their daily chores."
Insiders revealed that GoI had discussed the proposal of asking the Army to stage a flag march in the volatile areas but the state government has not given its nod so far. "A few people within the state government are of the opinion that people have become tired and after August 15 they would start defying the protest calendar. They are watching the developments keenly and are of the firm belief that continuous shutdown calls are set to backfire," the source added.
