Overnight rains create havoc in low lying areas of city

Kishtwar, Aug 12: Overnight rain in Kishtwar District virtually created havoc in many low lying parts of Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas due to chocking of drains resulting water to enter into the houses as well as in business establishments incurring huge loss to the trading community.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the worst affected areas due to overnight rains and over flooding of rain water include Guldhali Chowk, Amar Market, Bhandari Mohallah, Kichloo Mohallah, Guriyan, Bunastan and Malik Market where the water gushed into the homes giving restless night to the people.
"As soon as the rainwater and over flowing drain water started creating havoc at around midnight,the police team under supervision of DySP HQ Kishtwar Touseef Ahmed and SHO Kishtwar Sameer Geelani visited the affected areas and extended a helping hand to people thus prevented material damages as well as loss of precious life," sources said.
Later Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ghulam Nabi Balwan also visited the affected areas early morning and listened to the public grievances and gave on the spot directions to the officials.
On the direction of DC Kishtwar, in charge Tehsildar Kishtwar Irshad Ahmed Butt along with Patwari Halqa Kishtwar visited these areas to take stock of loss and prepared a detail report with regard to damages and also briefed the concerned officials in regard to necessary measures needed to be taken to prevent the further losses.
The team also noted that at many places the encroachment around the Nallahas which has compounded problem in over flooding of sewage water.
The people at Bunastan informed the visiting team that due to non availability of proper drainage in the area the rain water create havoc in the area several time in past and added that the water flowing from District Police Line (DPL) Kishtwar exaggerate their problem further. They urged upon the district administration to direct to prepare a comprehensive plan with regard to disposal of sewage and drainage water of District Police Line to prevent flooding in the area in future.
