Day 35: Curfew, restrictions extends to entire Kashmir
8/12/2016 11:33:24 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 12: On a day when an All Party Meeting (APM) is discussing situation in the valley in New Delhi today, authorities have extended curfew and restrictions on assembly of people to entire Kashmir, where separatist organizations have extended strike till August 18.
Life remained crippled due to curfew and restrictions besides strike called by separatist organizations against the killing of 57 civilians and injuries to more than 4000 others in security force firing since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) Commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag.
Meanwhile, police has urged Imams not to deliver provocative speeches in mosques and other religious places during Friday prayers today in the valley.
Police has also warned people not to hit streets after Friday prayers in Kashmir.
Security forces and state police busted teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse 'pro-freedom' demonstrators who hit the streets at several places, including summer capital, Srinagar, last night as there was still no impact of appeal made by the Prime Minister and resolution passed by Rajya Sabha for calm in the valley.
Official sources said curfew restrictions had been extended to entire Srinagar. Curfew has been imposed in Badgam, Chadoora and Magam towns in the central Kashmir district of Badgam while curfew and restriction will continue in Ganderbal district.
Apple township of Sopore will remain under curfew while restriction will continue in Baramulla, Kupwara and other major town and tehsil headquarter.
There was no change in the situation in Anantnag where curfew continued since July 9 while strict restriction has been imposed in Pulwama, Pampore, Shopian, Kulgam and other areas.
There was also no change in the situation in the Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) and Down Town where curfew continued for the 35th day today. "We remain confined in our houses during the day and get some relief in the evening when security forces are withdrawn provided there are no protests," the residents of Nawa Kadal said.
