Fresher assaulted for resisting raggi ng at JU | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept. 24: Close on the heels of a murderous attack on a Sanskrit scholar, yet another incident of violence was reported at JU campus today when a student was assaulted openly in the Law department. According to reports, a group of senior students led by one Deepak Charak (Deepu) claiming to be the NSUI leader and student of Law department entered department's library and started passing obscene lousy comments on three freshers including a girl. While the embarrassed girl left immediately, seniors led by Deepu targeted Kanav Sharma for resisting their overtures. Kanav approached Dean and then the Head of the Department who asked him to file a written complaint. When Kanav was handing over the complaint to the HoD, the gang entered into the HoD's room, snatched the complaint and assaulted him in the presence of HoD who remained mute spectator to the incident. The miscreants even chased the victim when he made a bid to escape from the campus. Kanav reported the matter to Vice Chancellor over phone who assured action but did not initiate any. The victim then lodged a complaint with Gandhi Nagar Police Station but action is still awaited against the accused. The comments of University official and SHO could not be ascertained despite repeated attempts. Pertinently, ragging is completely banned in University and educational institutions but many students have been targeted in the name of ragging in JU campus. |
