Desperate NC cornering General at its own peril | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 24: National Conference which has ruled the state for the maximum period is trying to corner former Army chief to project Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as the sole guardian of rights of Kashmiris fight against the Army. Army has always been projected as the hate figure in the Kashmir by National Conference for its own public survival. Though NC has always enjoyed the benefits of power, despite the fact that Army has overwhelming presence in the Kashmir. The party had been trying to rake up this issue for the last three-day but it failed to generate momentum and there was very less public concern visible. But not to build up further pressure, all NC Ministers have now threatened to sue the General. NC may try to bring an adjournment or may get it from other quarters to press the issue. NC is trying to project itself that it never got any assistance from the Army and is actually against it. Omar Abdullah has tried to take confrontation with the Army and has been doing this for the last two-year. He wants to project himself as the leader who confronted Army on the issue of AFSPA and for which it paid price also. Gen Singh had also said that Omar has an agenda but his governance record is very low. His remarks seen in the context of statement of former home Minister P Chidambaram that Omar faces governance deficit puts Omar in very bad light. Omar knows that his chances of coming to power are very slim. Both PDP and Cong have been very cautious on this account and GN Azad went to the extent of saying that nothing much should be read about it till there is definitely conclusion on it by the defence ministry. This statement is also very important as Cong also has Ministers in the government. And then why only NC Ministers are pressing for it gives the answer to it. NC even said that former army chief even helped PDP, though it didn't name the party. NC is acting in a desperate manner only at its own peril. |
