Akshay Azad JAMMU, Sept 24: Mocking at the instruction of government banning use of cell phones by students in colleges, a private company salesmen were today found selling sim-cards inside college premises in the heart of city, raising a serious question mark over sensitivity of college administration. Sources informed Early Times that salesmen of a private cellular company Vodafone have been selling free sim-cards inside premises of Women College Gandhi Nagar since last two days. "On Monday morning, Vodafone company salesmen installed a canopy in campus and started selling free sim- cards among students", a student informed, adding that in the last two days the company has sold hundreds of sim cards among students. "The entry of Vodafone company salesmen inside college premises is shrouded into a controversy and is indicating towards a hidden agreement between few influential college officials and Company in lieu of some freebies", an official of GCW alleged. A Professor of Jammu University pleading anonymity lambasted the college authorities for granting permission to cellular company owner to sell sim cards. "At one had government has banned the use of mobile phones in college premises but it's a million dollar question that on which grounds, permission has been given to private company to sell sim-cards", he rued. He further alleged that it seemed that some senior professors were hand in glove with private company and has given permission. "These cellular companies generally install canopies outside college premises to sell sim-cards but at Gandhi Nagar college they get permission, which is totally illegal. A thorough probe should be ordered so that guilty official should be punished", he said. Principal of GCW Gandhi Nagar, Kiran Bakshi, who was on official visit to Ahmadabad, said that the cellular company salesmen had conveyed that they want to organize a seminar in college premises. "If they were selling sim-cards, then I will enquire about the matter and take necessary action", she said, and maintained that the cellular companies could not be given permission to sell sim-cards inside college premises. |
