Kishtwar, Gool, Shopian to dominate proceedings | Autumn session likely to be stormy | | Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, Sept 24: With the Autumn session of the bicameral Jammu and Kashmir legislature round the corner, the political parties are busy in pushing their agenda while having submitted the requisitioned business for the discussions during the seven- day session. The Autumn Session which commences here from September 30 is likely to be stormy as the main opposition PDP is all set to take the Omar Abdullah government head on particularly in the aftermath of Gool and Shopian killings and Kishtwar communal riots. Though the Assembly secretariat has made all preparations for a normal session and has even received requisitioned business from the members but the chances of smooth functioning of the house are very bleak given the hostile environment prevailing in the state in the aftermath of the civilian killings in Gool, Kishtwar riots and of late in Shopian. The Assembly Secretariat has received 474 from members which include 226 in starred category and 218 in un-starred category. The secretariat has received 07 fresh Private Members Bills. The secretariat has also received 33 resolutions from 20 members. As per the statement of pending business 18 Private Members Bills are at Leave to Introduce stage, 7 private bills for consideration and passing while as 2 government bills are also pending for consideration and passing. The statement further reads that 3 bills have been referred to the Select Committee/Joint Select Committee and 3 private members have been received from the legislative council while as one resolution is pending before the house for further discussion. Meanwhile opposition PDP, NPP and BJP are busy in pushing their agenda during the brief session commencing from September 30. But observers believe that CPI(M) legislators, MY Tarigami, PDF Chairman, Hakim Mohammad Yasin and Independent MLA, Er. Rashid would be more aggressive and so the BJP and NPP given the fact that elections are round the corner. PDP legislators, Tarigami, Hakim Yasin and Er. Rashid according to sources are likely to demand special discussion on Shopian and Gool killings and Kishtwar communal clashes. |
